How can someone care so little about our youth?

I couldn’t have said it any better.

On October 25, 2016, the Government of Alberta shut down one of the provinces largest Home Schooling Boards. They claimed in the announcement, that it was a long time coming yet nobody seemed to have any idea. The province has basically thrown 1/3 of all Alberta Home Schooled youth to the wind by shutting down Trinity Christian School (Wisdom Home School has 3500 registered home school students with them) two months into their school year.

You can’t convince me that this was a planned decision that had any thought put into it or the document sent to Trinity students and families that points to a list of accredited home school boards to register their kids with would not still include Trinity (the document was updated after 2am on October 26th to no longer include Trinity).

The problem thus far, is that there is very little information available and everything that…

How I Spent My Saturday Afternoon

I shot a bunch of people. For their LinkedIn profiles. Here are a few of the results.

Snap out of it, Alberta: It’s not about bathrooms

“Let’s stop fixating on bathrooms and start dealing with the real issues.”

Assumptions are powerful.

When we accept an assumption as true, then we easily buy into the conclusion.

But what if the assumption is wrong?

Here is an assumption to consider:  Bill 10 and the sexual orientation and gender identity policies being implemented in schools across Alberta are all about protection of a very vulnerable population. They’re about human rights, equality, protection, inclusion and respect for diversity.

Laudable goals, indeed.

If we accept this assumption as true then it is easy to buy into the conclusion – the conclusion that any dissenting voices are against inclusion, respecting diversity, LGBTQ, equality, etc. and that those people should justifiably be labeled.

But what if that fundamental assumption is flawed?

What if it’s not about all those things, but about something else entirely?

I’m going to suggest it is about something else.  Because as a teacher, a parent, a citizen and a reasonable, rational…

Sexualizing Children for Profit? Why Albertans must say “NO”

“Every well thinking adult must be vigilant and must stand as a gatekeeper to our children’s development.”

informedalbertans's avatarinformed albertans

For far too long we have allowed one perspective to dominate the discussion of gender identity and sexual orientation policies and legislation in our schools.

We continue to be told by our elected officials and through the media that these policies will save lives and protect our most vulnerable youth.

But please consider the bigger picture for a moment.

We know from watching many other places in the world that there is a strikingly methodical and predictable pattern: legislation and school policies implemented under the claims of “protection”, “inclusion”, “equal rights” and “anti-bullying”, and then the introduction of comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) resources into classrooms.

We have seen it play out in Ontario, across the United States, in Australia, across Europe and elsewhere.

Why such an aggressive campaign locally, nationally and internationally to legislate a removal of parental involvement in our schools, followed by imposing specific sexuality materials onto children, even…

A Call to Action: Next Steps after Open Letter Campaign

Thank you to the thousands of people who joined together to help strengthen our collective voice, for both the #protectABkids Twitter Campaign, as well as the “Open Letter to Minister Eggen” Facebook event. Unfortunately, this issue is far from over.

Two reasons the Philippine National Election may go south

ATA Editorial Response, Part 2

When ideologues have an agenda to push, they rely on “experts” whose own “credentials” may be highly suspect.

There are many reasons I take issue with the editorial written recently in the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) News.  Last week I wrote about some of my concerns and today I will address two more, one questioning Jonathan Teghtmeyer’s source of information and another focused on his claims regarding parental notification.

Mr. Teghtmeyer, the ATA News Editor-in-Chief, refers to the Calgary Sexual Health Centre’s website understandingtheguidelines.ca in order to dispel “myths”.  This site is often referred to by those who promote Alberta Education’s Guidelines document.

However, is the Calgary Sexual Health Centre really the best authority to provide so-called “accurate” information on this topic?

Interestingly, Calgary Sexual Health Centre has significant links to Planned Parenthood, an organization in the United States which is:

  1. rapidly expanding their paid services to include providing hormone therapy for transgender people
  2. becoming increasingly allied with LGBTQ lobby groups.
  3. part of IPPF (International Planned Parenthood Federation)…

The First Quarter Storm: Setting the stage for Martial Law

Those who do not learn from the lessons of history…

matanglawin0702's avatarHindi Kami Ulyanin

The First Quarter Storm happened around 46 years ago and people hardly talk about it anymore. In fact, hardly anyone knows what it was.

What triggered it? Some say it was the massive cheating that happened in the 1969 Presidential elections that saw Ferdinand Marcos win handsomely against a rather pitiful showing by Sergio Osmeña, Jr. Those elections were widely believed to be the dirtiest in Philippine history—money was flowing freely to the electoral powers that be, and intimidation through violence became more commonplace.

If you think about it, dito na nga ang simula.

It was on January 26, 1970 when President Marcos gave his State of the Nation address after he won the 1969 elections. This event coincided with student demonstrations by the National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP) and University of the Philippines Student Council. These students, as fate would have it, were obviously quite passionate…
